Jennifer Tomaiolo
BRAC Teaching Artist, Mixed Media: painting, drawing and sculpture, 2018 - current
Jennifer Tomaiolo is an artist living and working in the Bronx with a passion for art history, nature and museums. She earned a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, a MFA from Brooklyn College and an AS in Chemistry from NYC College of Technology. She has been awarded the Charles Shaw Painting Award twice, the Bronx Council on the Arts BRIO Award for Painting four times, the Bronx Historical Society Artist in Residence and was photographed for the Bronx Artist Documentary Project's exhibition and subsequent book. She has shown her work in galleries around the Tri-State area, South Korea and does private commissions. Her work explores the play of patterns, figurative illusions and the landscape. Patterns inspired by travels in America, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Jordan and Morocco. Exposure to other languages, arts and customs is a focus of her studio practice and life goals.
Why I Teach: “
The desire to create and make things is an essential part of the human spirit. As a teacher, I am determined to help students engage in a positive manner with their surroundings and develop their technical skills. It is important to promote communication skills and interpersonal experiences to build rapport with students from a wide variety of backgrounds to encourage their intellectual and emotional growth.
